The Mods folder will generate inside of your user files folder. If you're unsure where this folder is, Crinrict has lots of good information on where to find it and what it contains here. Long story short: this is usually in 'Documents Electronic Arts The Sims 4' on Mac and PC, but may be located elsewhere if you did an advanced install. This is an article on the best Sims 4 save files (2021), their location, Sims 4 mods folder, and how to restore a previously saved game in Sims 4? Download as well.

If you have tried the instructions to install Sims 3 package files and the suggested test file (Rick's no intro mod) is not working in your game..
Step 1: Double Check!
If you actually follow the steps correctly from start to finish, your custom content WILL work! If it doesn't work, you did something wrong!
Go through the Installing Sims 3 Package Files FAQ again. Double check the following:
Updated?
Sims 4 selfie poses mod. Is your game updated to the 1.12 patch or later? Verify your game version in the Launcher and update/patch your game if it's not patched!
In Documents - NOT Program Files?
Are you sure you're putting things in the right place? It goes under My Documents - nothing should be under Program Files!
Folder Names Correct?
Double-check the folder names:
- Under My DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3 you should have a folder called 'Mods' - big M, little s.
- Inside that Mods folder (My DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3 you should have a folder called 'Packages' - big P, little s.
Resource.cfg Name & Location?
Double-check the Resource.cfg file. It should be inside your My DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3Mods folder (alongside the Packages folder) and is called Resource.cfg - big R, little e, not 'Resources' but 'Resource' and it should say .cfg on the end. Make sure you have file extensions showing so you see stuff like .cfg, .package, .rar, and so forth - if you see Resource.cfg on that file but you don't see .whatever on other files, it's probably actually called Resource.cfg.txt - make sure you turn on showing file extension (Identifying File Types section).
Right-click on Resource.cfg and check Properties. Is the file name Resource.cfg or Resource.cfg.txt or something else? It should just be Resource.cfg
Resource.cfg Contents?
Double-double check the Resource.cfg file. It's probably easiest to just delete the one you have and replace it with this one: http://skuld.modthesims.info/Resource.cfg - if the contents of your Resource.cfg are wrong then even if it's named right, it won't work! Both the name and contents of the link just given are correct.
Test File?
Make sure you are using the suggested test file, Rick's No Intro Mod and that you have unzipped it into My DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3ModsPackages. It should be the only file in that folder, and once unzipped, it should be called 'nointro.package'
Step 2: Delete Cache Files
It can be helpful to delete your cache files, so the game regenerates fresh ones, whenever you've added or removed custom content:
Step 3: Collect Info for Help
If you have verified the above points in Step 1 and deleted your cache files in Step 2, then the nointro mod (and thus any other .package format content) should be working. But if it's not, maybe you've missed something. In that case, it may be helpful to get another set of eyes looking at your custom content setup to figure out where you've gone wrong.
For this, you will need to post a new thread of your own in the Sims 3 Help Forums on MTS. Note that there is a separate subforum if you are on a Mac.
You MUST include ALL of the following info in your post:
Game Version(s)
- If you're using Windows:Find your game version (Windows)
- If you're using a Mac:Find your game version (Mac)
Copy and paste the indicated line from the skuversion.txt or info.plist from the following locations, for whichever games you have (adapt as appropriate for OSX):
- C:Program FilesElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3GameBin
If you are on a 64-bit operating system, then it'll be in 'Program Files (x86)' rather than just plain Program Files.
You can fill in this little form with your game versions:
The Sims 3: GameVersion =
Just copy-paste the form above into the text of your new post and fill in each line. For any you don't have installed, just put 'not installed' so we know you don't have it.
Resource.cfg
Open your DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3ModsResource.cfg file in Notepad and copy-paste its contents alongside the form with your game version(s) into the text of your new post.
Screenshots
Take a screenshot of the following locations:
- DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3
- DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3Mods
- DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3ModsPackages
Make sure you set your folder view to Details mode and expand out the Name and Type columns so they're fully readable.
On your new post in Help, click 'Go Advanced' and use Manage Attachments to attach your images to your post. If it says the images are too big, just upload them to MYP and copy-paste the links into the text of your post.
If you don't know how to take screenshots, see: Game Help:Screenshots
Step 4: Post Help Thread!
If you have collected ALL of the above information:
- Your versions for all packs installed and the base game
- The contents of your Resource.cfg
- Screenshots of the three folders under Documents
.. then you are ready to post a new thread in the Sims 3 Help Forums. Our Help staff can look at the information given and figure out what you might be doing wrong that's keeping your custom content from working.
If you are stuck on collecting any of the needed information, you can leave it out but please let us know exactly what you are stuck on and don't understand, and we can explain further so you can provide the needed information. Remember, we don't have a crystal ball, or access to your computer - providing the necessary information means we can help you solve your issues!
